In order to reinforce its position in the premium segment of the market, AMG, in cooperation with Gellink + Schwämmlein Architekten, developed a new "standalone" concept for a uniform corporate architecture for their 40+ flagship stores worldwide. To realise this concept, Joseph Westiform developed an off-the-shelf cladding system for AMG which reproduced the new slatted facade design required by the concept, thereby enabling a quick, easy and cost-effective roll-out worldwide.
The facade consists of white, horizontal LED-illuminated aluminum profiles - so-called "slat profiles" - supported on black, diagonal aluminum tube profiles. To optimise the lighting effect, the white profiles with integrated LEDs are attached to the façade at an angle of 60°, as with the AMG logo. This intensifies the 3D effect of the entire slat facade and ensures a unique and consistent appearance, which looks stunning in the dark.
A particular challenge was the homogeneous, shadow-free lighting of the lamella façade; in order to avoid hot spots, more than 15,000 high-quality LED modules were used for each installation. In addition to the AMG slatted facade, Joseph Westiform also supplied the illuminated AMG logo including the illuminated lettering "AMG" together with the corresponding dealer name signage.
